"Would you look at that?"

"Would you look at that?"

My youngest grandson, Easton, possesses a delightful sense of humor. Several years ago, he crafted a video that initiated the straightforward inquiry, "Would you look at that?" Throughout the video, he playfully commented on various amusing scenarios, punctuating each with the same question. I've revisited this video countless times, and without fail, I find myself bursting into genuine laughter at its conclusion.

Recently, I grappled with life's lingering challenges, engaging in a candid dialogue with God about longstanding, unanswered prayers. My voice reverberated through the empty house while making my bed on this particular day of earnest prayer. In frustration, I adopted my grandson's question, exclaiming, "Would you look at that?" With each repetition, I articulated my unmet prayer requests, yearning for God's attention on the healing yet to manifest, the wayward child, and the financial struggles—imploring Him to take notice.

As I concluded my impassioned plea to the Almighty and caught my breath, God responded, gently asking, "Would you look at that?" In His grace and mercy, He prompted me to reflect on the day He spared my grandson's life during a diabetic coma, the moment when my husband's doctor emerged from the operating room with news of a cancer-free diagnosis and a successfully repaired leg. I was reminded of God's mercy in delivering my child from addiction and the day He directed me to leave my secure secular job, trusting Him with my life. He continued, asking if I remembered the day He sacrificed His life for my salvation, triumphantly rose again, and pledged to return soon. Persistently posing the same question, I could only humbly respond, "Would you look at that?"

Now, I challenge myself to look back at the countless instances in my life and others where God's mighty hand of grace prevailed. Amidst the present challenges, I remind myself to contemplate all that God is, all He has accomplished, and His unwavering faithfulness.

I am reminded of Psalm 77:11-12 (NIV): "I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds."

I extend the same challenge to you: "Would you look at that?" Consider what might make you feel God hasn't come through for you. Then, gaze retrospectively at all He has done on your behalf. "Would you look at that?" Just as the joy overflowed in my heart when my grandson playfully posed this question, I pray that, as you reflect, the joy of the Lord will flood your soul, transforming your prayers into expressions of joy.

May your reflection be guided by Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
