“Acceptance" is a ten-letter word, defined as receiving something offered with gladness. It plays a significant role in our lives from a very young age. As children, we all seek acceptance, an essential aspect of our development. When we're not invited to play with other children on the playground, we may feel there's something wrong with us, leading to self-doubt and questions about our worth.
Adolescence brings a heightened desire for acceptance from peers, encompassing aspects like looks, clothing, music, and relationships. Junior high marks a pivotal stage where labels and categories start shaping our identities. In high school, many strive to fit in, often altering their appearance, beliefs, or affiliations to gain acceptance.
What's intriguing is that the pursuit of acceptance often transforms us into something we think others want us to be rather than who we are. We may switch between various groups in search of where we feel most comfortable. This process is less about self-discovery and more about conforming to societal expectations driven by human nature and immaturity.
Even as adults, the desire for acceptance persists. In romantic relationships, we seek approval from our partners. As parents, we yearn for our children's love and sometimes make decisions against our better judgment to maintain their approval. At work, pleasing superiors and colleagues remains a constant endeavor.
Throughout this ceaseless quest for acceptance from others, we often overlook a significant aspect: our relationship with God. God patiently waits for us to accept Him, offering eternal life and profound peace. While we work hard to fit into the world's mold, He waits for us to embrace Him willingly.
Accepting God doesn't require changing who we are; it grants us the freedom to be authentic without fear of rejection. God's love is unconditional, forgiving, and unmeasured. He longs for our acceptance, offering us a love beyond any human can provide.
So, when will you finally accept Him? The pain of rejection we endure throughout our lives reflects the pain we cause our Heavenly Father. He understands and shares our pain as parents acutely feel their children's suffering. We are His beloved creation and children, yet we often resist His love.
In this ten-letter word, "acceptance," lies the key to our lives. It can liberate us from the need for external validation and set us free. I accept Jesus; I choose freedom. Will you accept Jesus and receive?
For He says: “In an acceptable time, I have heard you,
And in the day of salvation, I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2 NKJV
